English School of Canada

Profile

Established by ESL teachers, the English School of Canada delivers structured, dynamic programs that give students the opportunity to improve their fluency, confidence, and communication abilities in the English language. The school provides a modern and positive environment where students feel comfortable speaking with teachers and classmates. At the English School of Canada, we understand that all students have different needs. We use regular testing and progress reports to evaluate each student's improvement and select courses that help them master all aspects of the English language.

Areas of Expertise

The English School of Canada employs a communicative approach to the study of English. Our programs focus on building the skills necessary for effective communication, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Students learn by doing at our school, in courses that use current textbooks and interesting themes to ensure that our students meet their goals in improving their English. In addition to our regular ESL programs, we also provide advanced Business English courses and both TOEIC and TOEFL Exam Preparation programs. Our TOEFL course is specifically designed for the CBT-TOEFL (computer based test) and incorporates both in-class teaching and computer based testing and practice.

Off Campus Housing

The English School of Canada provides a homestay program that matches international students with a Canadian host family. Homestay students enjoy getting to know their Canadian family. The homestay program is also an excellent opportunity for students to practice English outside of the classroom and to learn more about Canada and Canadian culture. Our homestay families provide students with comfortable private rooms with a bed, desk, dresser, and lamp, plus fresh towels and linens each week. Students may select two or three meals per day from their homestay. All homestay families live close to the school.

Sports

The English School of Canada provides a wide variety of extracurricular sports and activities for its students. In the summer, students can participate in weekly football games, beach volleyball, rollerblading, baseball, and much more. Winter activities include skiing, skating, and tobogganing. Activities include city tours, trips to famous sights, and cultural events like dinners and dancing.

Clubs

Our school offers a variety of clubs and activities. In the Photography Club, students take and develop pictures in the English School of Canada's very own darkroom. The Drama Club is popular with students who enjoy acting and are interested in practicing their newly acquired English skills. The Newspaper Club is for students who want to practice their English writing skills.

Information Technology

The English School of Canada computer lab has a computer/student ratio of about one computer for every eight students. All of the computers are connected to the Internet and each student has free access to e-mail. Students may also practice the CBT-TOEFL and use CD-ROMs and other ESL multimedia aids for self study. Please contact the school for information about our Internet ESL and Computer ESL courses, where students use computers to assist their language learning.

Cultural

ESC students enjoy meeting people from other countries at school. In class, students from South America, Asia, and Europe share stories and information to learn more about the world. Students also learn about North American culture through their textbooks and school activities. Cultural activities include visits to museums and art galleries, concerts, trips to Chinatown, and dinners in Toronto's famous Little Italy and Greek Town.
